JOB DESCRIPTION

ICNY is an educational non-profit organization that works with over 1,000 grassroots religious leaders throughout New York City. Our goal is to create understanding and respect among the different religious groups of New York City as well as to encourage members of all faiths to get involved in civic participation. We seek to help solving social issues in the fields of education, the legal system, social work, the arts and culture.

ICNY has a large but aging donor base and minimal history in receiving grants. The development director’s primary tasks will be to shore up current donor support through various strategies and to build and implement a robust strategy for diversifying the organizations funding through outreach to city and federal funding as well as private foundations and corporations. The development officer must be able to work well with a small team staff and board of directors. The development officer will guide and participate in all aspects of development for this small non-profit. This position requires both the development and implementation of systems, attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to multitask.

Particular areas are as follows

Donor cultivation:

• Individual donor cultivation: researching donors, organizing small cultivation events, organizing ICNY’s planned giving program and bequests, maintain donor database, explore new media as potential fundraising tool.

• Coordinate Annual Gala: serving as the point person for the Board’s dinner committee and the executive director.

• Work with Staff and Designer to produce an Annual Report

• Coordinate Annual Appeal

• Work with Business Administrator to track and acknowledge donors

• Develop Marketing Materials

Grant Support:

• Support Program Director with research and editing 10-15 grants /year; coordinate meetings and correspondence with grant officers.

Coordinate board of directors meetings three times per year

Hours: Full Time or ¾ time

Salary: Per experience ($35,000) plus health and dental insurance

Start date: January 15, 2009
